'Realisation of human rights in the country – strengthening national empowerment to facilitate the implementation of human rights at national level’

It is essential for GHR to realize a sustained training activity in the regions, to provide the local, national and regional movement with the basic knowledge on human rights standards and mechanisms and on the international realities.

Training Programme on: 'Women empowerment'

GHR has launched a new global training programme for women's training in empowerment.

GHR new programme is aiming at promoting gender equality, in particular in the field of poverty reduction, political participation, economic empowerment and ending violence against women.

GTP-ICT Russia:Training and implementation programme;

From 11th to 19th of June, GHR organized in Voronezh, Russia, 2 training courses for the human rights defenders.

The aims of the course are to strengthen the human rights organisations, to contribute to train a new generation of HRD in Russia and finally to teach possibles strategies on national or regional level.

GTP-ICT Tunisia: Training and Implementation Programme;

From the 14 to 20 May 2011, GHR President visited partners in Tunisia to prepare a comprehensive human rights training programme for this country. He met with the main human rights NGOs, four Ministries, the Commission of Inquiry, as well as international institutions.

TRAINING ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED IN 2011:

three 3-weeks Geneva Courses on the occasion of the ordinary sessions of the HR-Council (in March, June and September);

four Expert Seminars, in March (on the HR-Council), June (on International Humanitarian Law), September (on Transitional Justice) and November (on Minorities);

two Courses and three Seminars during the sessions of the UPR Working group;

several lectures and briefings;

seven In-Country Courses (GTP-ICT) and briefings.

 
 

Who we are

Geneva for Human Rights - Global Training

An international association under Swiss law, GHR received tax exemption status from the Geneva authorities from the financial year 2005 onwards.

It obtained the Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council in July 2009.


GHR General Assembly holds one session a year. On 31 December 2011, the Association was composed of 39 individual members and 4 observers. Sixteen of them are trainers or
teachers.. Many of them have participated pro bono to GHR training activities.


Executive Council members are: Suhas Chakma (India), Alain Dick (France), Jean-Pierre Huber (Switzerland, Treasurer), Nicolas Joffre (Bolivia), Penny Parker (United States of America), Bertrand Ramcharan (Guyana), Eric Revillet (Switzerland), Adrien-Claude Zoller (Switzerland, President).


GHR Secretariat is composed of 3 main Departments: the Global Training Department (GTP), the Human Rights Policy Studies Department (HPS) and the Technical Department (SE). One programme aiming at supporting the training activities as well as the policies studies, the Geneva Advocacy Programme focuses on initiatives and networking.

The central activity of our international association is training human rights defenders and all those involved at the national level in human rights promotion and protection.

GHR offers a unique expertise in the teaching of intergovernmental organizations, of international human rights standards and procedures, and of national and international implementation strategies.

All GHR Courses combine the theoretical knowledge of international relations and international law with the exposure to the reality of international diplomacy and the experiences of defenders in the field.

GSC-19, march 2010 - Geneva Course; lesson on 'Nation Building and Human Rights' by H.E. Ramos Horta, President of Timor-Leste and member of Geneva for Human Rights.

They all include introductions on national implementation efforts (national institutions, elaboration of public policies, national plans, technical assistance, dialogue and mediation techniques between authorities and civil society); humanitarian law; transitional justice; international criminal law; the UN reform; globalisation; and questions related to management and strategies. The objectives of each course are defined on the basis of the specific patterns of countries of the participants.

In accordance with the international human rights standards, ‘Geneva International for Human Rights’ firmly believes in the basic principles of equality, interdependence and indivisibility of all civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights. Aiming at promoting the principles of non-discrimination and equality, the Organisation has integrated in its criteria the ethnic and gender diversity.
