It is essential for GHR to realize a sustained training activity in the regions, to provide the local, national and regional movement with the basic knowledge on human rights standards and mechanisms and on the international realities.

Expert Seminar on: 'Transitional justice and the past: the perspective of the victims'

GHR convened a seminar on transitional justice. For one day, experts, defenders and victims shared views and opinions to build new strategies and policies to implement HR in countries in transition.

 

Training Programme on: 'Women empowerment'

GHR has launched a new global training programme for empowerment of women.

GHR new programme is aiming at promoting gender equality, in particular in the field of poverty reduction, political participation, economic empowerment and ending violence against women.

 

GTP-ICT Russia:Training and implementation programme;

From 11th to 19th of June, GHR organized in Voronezh, Russia, 2 training courses for the human rights defenders.

The aims of the course were to strengthen the human rights organisations, to contribute to a training of a new generation of HRD in Russia and finally to teach possible strategies on national or regional level.

 

GTP-ICT Tunisia: Training and Implementation Programme;

From the 14 to 20 May 2011, GHR President visited partners in Tunisia to prepare a comprehensive human rights training programme for this country. He met with the main human rights NGOs, four Ministries, the Commission of Inquiry, as well as international institutions.

 
 
 

Geneva for Human Rights - Global Training

GHR is a training organisation

with experience and expertise concerning the functioning of the international and regional systems, the use of UN special procedures, treaty monitoring bodies and mechanisms of the HR-Council, in particular the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

GHR does also participate in the elaboration of strategies to set-up and strengthen networks and coalitions.

In its country programmes for training, advocacy and promotion, GHR also offers technical assistance and mediation services between government, institutional partners and the civil society.

Through it's training activities, GHR succeeded in developing and acquiring a great expertise and understanding of following in the following fields:

  • expertise in international human rights standards and procedures, in international diplomacy and in the elaboration of strategies for NGOs, defenders, networks and coalitions from the regions (management, planning, mediation, protection);
  • training based on the new priorities and concerns of human rights defenders from the regions (including international humanitarian law, international criminal law, MDGs, women’s rights, globalization);
  • empowering NGOs and defenders (focus on training of trainers).

The 2nd Experts Seminar of GHR on International Humanitarian Law took place on 7 and 8 of June 2011 in the International Conference Centre of Geneva (CICG). Its title was :

"Implementation of the international humanitarian law : learning from the experiences of UN Human Rights Bodies".

Aims of the Expert Seminar were:

  1. to sensitize those attending the Human Rights Council’s session on the complementarity of UN and IHL mechanisms available to implement IHL;
  2. to reflect initiatives, ways and best practices to strengthen IHL implementation, with diplomats, experts and NGOs wishing to participate in the forthcoming 31st International Red Cross Conference;
  3. to empower human rights defenders in the use of UN procedures and IHL mechanisms.
